Ok, I've never been there before and will be taking that 10hour flight to the "other down under" that's further south... Any of you guys been there and can share / suggest an itinerary?
I only had merely a night in NZ for BT, after Sydney, hence, not much of sightseeing done. Local managed to bring me to this Nikau Cave..wet and dirty, but adventurous, with a lot of natural habitat, All the way down the 1km walk underground was surrounded by stalagmites and stalagtites and lots of glowworms...
I've already been to Korea twice lah, amac!!! *grrrrr*
Anyway, I'll be in Auckland for 11 days actually - 7 days holiday and the rest will be for work purposes...
I'm an extremely outdoorsy person so NZ is actually wonderful with so many adventurous stuff to do (ie. bungee jumping, sky diving, white water rafting, rock climbing, exploring the whole natural landscape etc) Shiok!
I like meat so beef steaks and lamb racks are definitely on the cards! Haha
Any recommendations for car rental companies? I've hired with Thrifty whenever I'm in Aussie and have had no complaints so far... Apex in NZ seems cheap and good... Anyone has anything to chime in?
ok chaister... all those activities are actually better in south island outskirts of christchurch.
but anyway back to north island.. Auckland you can do some sailing if weather permits and go hiking on Rangitoto island just across the bay from Auckland city... pack a lunch and have a nice day out.
head south to see Roturoa and Wellington and also you can do a Lord of the rings tour to see the scenic spots they shot the movie.
as for the city.. well there is the sky jump from the casino sky tower and nice to take the flat price city bus that circles city and outskirts... suburbs like parnell are full of cafes and little shops.
for makan there are loads of choices in the city..
my personal hang out www.occidentalbar.co.nz/ from there you can easily check out surrounding lanes for good small bars and hole in the wall eateries.
for simply but large portioned chinese food hit BBQking or go to elliot st or wellesley st for somer good korean food.
for late night chow... opposite casino there is a Dennys and Lam Kwai Foong chinese basic survival makan. main feature for late nite munchies is the White lady bus.. mobile burger bus... its greasy yummy burger sold from evening till wee hours in the morning.
for good local steaks... try Angus steak house or lord Byrons.
