From Audi to Jag
Permalink

Hi folks. After 2.5 years driving an Audi A5 Sportback, I have decided to quit bratwurst to go into fish and chips.

booked a polaris white xf 2.0T petrol last Sunday with 4 bids non guaranteed COE at rebate level of SGD60k.

Was just informed by the SE that the car will arrived on our shores July 24th. Can any kind souls please advise if Wearnes will aggressively try to secure a COE for me since the car will arrive very soon ?

Thank you in advance.

Cheers.

Congrats! Wise decision, fish and chips nicer! My guess is Wearnes will definitely go for it, hope you collect the car in time!

From Audi to Jag... I'm pretty confident you won't regret.

FYI, I was committed to only 2 bids back in May 2013. and despite the upward trend of COE, Wearnes did push very hard and got their hands on the cert for me.

rest easy! looking forward to seeing another Polaris White on the road.

Thank you kind folks ! I adore my a5sb tremendously but it is notoriously unreliable ala the 'famous' 7speeder s-tronic.

i certainly do hope wearnes will secure the COE asap since their GM Steve Poh also confirmed with me that the car will arrive July the 24th.
i hope that I'll enjoy this XF since this is my first RWD... I still love quattro aka AWDs...

Cheers !

hi bro, was your bid the guaranteed or non ? If it is the latter, I would be impressed to see Wearnes bidding so aggressively for it.

There are AWD versions of the XF, but i don't think we'll see them here..

Yup you are right. It's a shame. AWD's excellent grip and advantage on pull from rest is something I'll miss for a while.

Limitation in terms of aftermarket products to play with.. Minus point. Else, the car is still unique as of now.. Till the volume increase like BMW

Yup. Excellent tunes like APR are readily available for Audis, Beemers and VW.

Anyone knows good tuning for Jag? Not that impressed with the stock 340NM torque.

Cheers

I booked a 2.2d last Sat, also 3 bids no guarantee at 60k rebate. Wearnes managed to successfully bid for me 2 days ago, so I will be collecting next week or week after!

Congrats ! Now, this is the thing that pissed me off. I paid the deposit on Sunday, just one day after you and to my surprise, my SE DID NOT put in a bid for me on Thursday ! I was not impressed at all.

So the next bid is on August 7th. If COE were to rocket through the roof, I will be extremely pissed off.

Hi arthury, happy for you but i'm even more pissed off now. we booked on the same day ! what was your bidding like ? 3 bids non guaranteed ?

Hi John, mine is the same as urs (4 bid non guarantee) and COE rebates at $60K. Did u check online whether they have put in the bid for u last Wed? I tried on Wed noon on the way to the airport, I couldn't find my IC# in the system but when I tried again later in the evening on the way for dinner, I saw my full details n bid price etc n the status of the bid. U might wanna try log into Https://ocoe.lta.gov.sg again.

hi bro. i checked the bidding system from wednesday till even 359pm thursday; not a single bid submitted.

that was when i asked for clarifications from my SE. she gave me a pretty much half baked answer like "Wearnes decided against bidding because the levels were above their threshold etc etc". She broke the camel's back when she claimed her management will consider this as the first of 4 bids !

long story cut short, my first bid will start August 7th. Really bloody hell.

Johneunice, just read in vagsg about your a7. Hopefully you get a better experience in Jag.. my first too, and so far so good! I think your SE might have confused .. I think they will only bid with a chassis / engine number, and since your car has not arrived yet, I think they are taking a risk to bid if they do so. hope you will get your car in Aug, so far it looks like Wearnes would bid even if the COE goes up to 70+ as in my case.

Hi folks, thanks for all the pmails and posts. You guys will be amazed to know that the engine and chassis numbers were given to me and indicated on the purchase agreement !

Now, with the above details readily available at the time I placed my deposit, why did Wearnes not put in a bid for me ?

Their GM Steve was professional and a gentleman. He assured me this morning they will do their best for the next bid and apologized for this lapse.

I understand that there is supposedly a list of SEs who are blacklisted. I certainly hope my SE isn't on the list.

by the way, did your SE throw in 3M carpets or even free servicing ? Mine is next to none !

Sidenote to the folks who booked the 2.0 petrol, was your price between 200-209k with 4 bids non guaranteed or 228k ? Thanks !

Hi John, according to my SE the sell price is fixed; Solar film was "paid by" Citi upon the approval for the loan. However, I did asked my SE for a Jaguar golf bag as I will be playing in Audi Quattro Cup in Aug; just to make sure I arrive at Sentosa bag drop in my new ride with a new bag. = P

I didn't ask for the 3M mat though cos I prefer to get it customized after I have collected the car; such as thickness, color, fitting etc. You might wanna ask your SE to give it to you free. As for free servicing, you should be getting 3 years or 72,000km (whichever come first) at the interval of every 1 year or 24,000km including parts n labour for free. U might wanna check in your booking form.

Hope this help.

Hi Arthur, thanks loads for your reply. I think Wearnes is kindda sticky when it comes to freebies. Like you, I did'nt have much opportunity to ask for concessions as the entire process seems really fast. I swung by Wearnes after church with my wife and 5 month old, with only the intention of seeing the Jag in the flesh.
Ended buying it.
Anyway, my SE encouraged me to take up the 3 years servicing package... at SGD3000 ! How come it can be offered free ?!
Alamak, have a feeling I'm getting the shorter end of the stick.

I have ever checked prices on volvo with 2 diff SEs before. One quoted free service but the other not. I guess service package is something Wearnes SE use to increase their buffer for us to negotiate.

Bro Johneunice, I believe that freebies like the solar film, mats etc come from the SE's own account. I think most of us got different deals. Personally, I took a quick deal with a higher trade in but no solar film or mats. This was during last year's clearance deal in Dec. My SE gave me some small items...I got my ride as promised before CNY...within 3 weeks, 1 bid. I didn't get as much as most bros here but am still happy with what I got.

My previous ride was also AWD but to be honest although the XF is only RWD...you will only feel the diff if you drive it hard in the wet. Otherwise in dry conditions not much diff. I'm really happy with the handling despite of its size. Just my personal opinion.

I hope you get your ride soon bro.wink

Hello brothers ! Ok, got my COE today. Wearnes bidded quite aggressively for me at 78,888. My car is already in SG and can collect as early as next week. I'll be out for business trip so I'll collect it in the 3rd week of August. All in all, I paid $209,000 for a XF2.0t petrol. Am happy with this price. Hope this Jag will not disappoint me like my Audi. Cheers brothers !

By the way, folks with the 2.0t petrol, what type of tires your ride came with ? i'm thinking of trading in the stock tires for either CSC5 or PS.
thanks !

Congrats, johneunice :)

Looking forward to seeing you and your ride soon!

Stock tyres should be Pirelli PZero...

CSC5 and PSS are both very good but if you're going for the CSC, please go for the "5P" instead of just the "5"...

Hi brother, thank you !

I'm on CSC5P and loves the firm grip both wet and dry. PSS is, in my opinion, a tart bit overpriced considering it's almost on par with the former.

I'm thinking of trading up my stock 18" Vela Alloy Wheels for a 19"... Anybody wants my rims+rubber ? biggrin

Oh... Yeah i'm working in Havelock area. Church St means I'm headed either to Raffles Boulevard for kopi with some Jag kakis here or towards ECP to go MBSGC (again) to meet some Jag kakis here for a round of golf practice... hehe.. Else, I should be headed to CTE on normal days noon time.

Where do you work?

Do u fancy either kopi or golf???

Tried both PSS and P Zero, and I must say that P Zero is indeed more aggressive compared to PSS.

Road noise is a bit lesser on the PSS though.. but if you were to calculate dollar and cents, P Zero is definitely value for money.

PSS wet grip is not as good as P Zero.

Hmmm... nowadays "small fries" and Jaguars go along sia???

But goes to show Jag owners are humble folks, which is seen in their car choices. No mercs or BMWs...

Hi guys. I was also a convert from Audi A5 Cabrio to XF 3.0 SC. I have to say the only regret I have was to give up the feeling of driving down the highway with my top down in the cool breeze of the night.... irreplacable feeling but I managed to compensate that with a higher torque and horsey Jag. The drive is totally difference between a 2 litre TC vs a 3 litre SC. though the latter requires RPM to hit 3.5k before the SC kicks in, the pull is definitely more distinct than a TC. If you drive constantly above 3.5k RPM, the pull is also constant without any lag. Built quality and handling is comparable to the audi in my opinion. You will love the ride in the long run.....

i think the audi and VW interior generally more plasticky in nature.. the jag just feels that more plush..

a case in point on why I think otherwise. If you look at the aircon vent, you see the plastic is not 100% flush with the dashboard, as compared to the VW/audi.. but the latter creates the squeak/rattle as a result. so I'm not that hung up about the "imperfection". you gain some, you lose some (and maybe more )

the lower dashboard is also made of hard plastic .. vs "cushioned plastic" in most German makes.

I think the interiors of our jags beat the Audis, Beemers and Mercs hands down...

Jags have got mostly leather, wood and aluminium in the cabin... You get a lot of plastic with the Germans...

actually I think the German interior is better (maybe not so much for Merc) but more in terms of the seamless fitment of the interior components. But there's a problem with that, it usually end up with squeak and creaks due to the plastic / plastic / leather rubbing. So far my XF is squeak-less although randomly I do hear some light rattling when I am stopping the car (not sure if anybody has that)
