Let's share XF Tips & Tricks NOT stated in XF Manual
Permalink

folks, I thought it'll be helpful for us XF owners to share interesting stuff we learn about our cars... esp. stuff that they DON'T say in the manual. grrr...

Here's what I've learnt in my 2 months with my XF:

1. u can "prompt" Eco-engine shut off: by depressing the brake with more force (thanks chiaster).

2. pseudo umbrella slot: there's a 'longkang' behind the rear headrests which seems to fit a long umbrella perfectly

3. do not pump Diesel in Malaysia

4. ...

5. ...

Keep it coming... am sure the long-time XF drivers know more tips & tricks.

(PS: I found it odd that Wearnes inflate my stock 18" PZero to 34 PSI; when the car door instructions state 31 PSI. hmmm... clearly I'm no expert in these things.)

With Eco mode "on", after reversing into your car park lot, put to "P" and unbuckle your seatbelt - the engine shuts off automatically :)

You can pump diesel in Malaysia but not more than half a tank and mixed with local diesel

Not sure if this is mentioned in the manual, but a SA told me that I can keep the air circulation mode permanently on if I press and hold the button until the amber lamp blinks. The LCD screen will display "Latched air-circu on" (or something like that). However, air circulation mode reverts to its default setting when the engine is turned off.

some tricks, but stated in manual..

if u hold down the unlock button on ur remote, the windows will open automatically. likewise, hold the lock and it'll wind up. good for cooling down ur car from a distance.
for the rear windows, if u depress fully and let go (from the front master panel), it'll go down about 4 inches and stay there. its to prevent wind buffeting for those who like to drive with the front windows down

The first point refers to "global open/close"

The latched air circulation is true. But once you turn of engine, you will have to press the latched on again.

In "S" mode, hold on to the "-" paddle shift for the gearbox to downshift to the best ratio at optimum power band... For example, you don't have to downshift 3 times to get from "6" to "3"... It works the other way too: hold on to "+" and the gearbox shifts straight into auto mode...

if you stay on manual too long and drag the gear at 'high' rpm (note for diesel engine, anything above 2500rpm is HIGH) the ZF transmission will auto change to D mode for you and revert to auto. self preservation safety feature.

Did any bros encountered that when you do reversing, your reverse camera does not work, and out of sudden, even the reverse sound also gone?
Fear not. Usually it was due to those iphone user, that upgraded the OS; and when tried to bluetooth it to the car..the entire system kena 'hanged'..
So, what I did was, power down the car. Shut the door. wait for a min, open the car, start the engine. This is known as some electronic re-start of the system..and everything will be back to normal. However, once you enable the bluetooth connection again, the same thing will happen. So, problem here lies with, the bluetooth system in the car is not upgraded as per our iphone OS..so, need to drive back to Wearnes, to get it upgraded..
Drink some kopi at lounge, abt half and hour, job done!

It does not shift back to auto when you are in "S"... Meaning, you can redline the car and it will not upshift... Tried it last weekend too... :)

just found out this few days back. the one-touch window on driver's side not working when winding up (discover when i need to insert cashcard at the carpark gantry). to resolve this, simply press and hold the window control until windows wind fully up and down for a few times and viola, the one-touch window is back to normal again. :)

at times, after starting up the car and turn to D, and realise it blink and cant move..... don't have to restart, just turn to "R" let it move a little and turn back... D don't blink anymore and can drive off.

just found out, don't know if it's right way to do and will it cause damages.

anyone can advise?

Maybe your car needs a little longer to "wake up"

The Blinking 'D' was due to the incomplete engagement of the Gear, as we shift our rotor too fast, from 'P' to 'D'....
But Bro Amac is correct, What we need to do is to re-engage to a different gear, and the problem will be solved.

That air vent is not supposed to shut fully all the time because the rationale is that re-circulated air contains mostly carbon dioxide and can adversely affect the driver's focus. Letting fresh air in from the outside thus increases the oxygen ratio in the cabin and allows for a "healthier" ride.

However, the above works best in places with clean air and long roads - SG definitely doesn't have that what more with our dense vehicle population... Pui!
