Recently the air con emits a foul smell whenever I turn on the engine. It is especially bad after overnight parking. My service adviser said this is a known issue. But no solution yet. Advised me to set the temperature to 28 deg. C and turn on full blast before turning off the engine. He said it's a temporary fix. I did as advised. But the smell is still there. Sigh...
The foul smell is coming from the damp aircon filter... That's why the service guy told you to blast the aircon at high temperature to sort of "dry it out".
I thank all bros for the replies. Have made an appointment with Wearnes this Sat. Will ask them to change aircon filter and sanitise the air con system. Hopefully it will solve the problem.
Not sure why the SA said over the phone that the foul smell is due to a problem with the cooler box. That this is a known issue, but no solution at the moment.
Will keep you guys posted.
It happened to my jag when I first collected the car.. Even after changing filters, the same smell still persist. I found out that it was due to the moist caught up overnight. What I did was to blast the air con first thing when I on the engine for abt 3mins.. Now, after 1yr, no more smells..

Hi. When you did the full blast, did you change the temperature? I was told a temporary fix is to do a full blast at 28 deg C. I did that. But the smell still there. Sigh...
No, I didnt change the temp. However, I did some changes, as I do not send my car for those car washing in the evening. Maybe that's helps as reduce the moist..
Hey merlionman,
You have the EXACT same problem as I do.
Was your car from the batch that was registered last week of May this year?
I've experienced the same foul smell (which persists for about 1 min after engine turn on). Sent it back to Wearnes last week... They changed the filter, and it was good for a couple of days.
Now, the smell has returned though not as pronounced as before.
I do notice that the smell is especially bad if the car is parked under hot sun for >4hrs.
Otherwise, I'm loving the ride in all other aspects.
Lets catch up at the Jag gettogether tonight.
I'll really like to trade our experiences on the car.
Look for me pls... If not, PM me your contact, we'll chat.
for a quick fix... turn OFF/disable your a/c auto rotation/closing vents... turn off a/c before you shut down car and park.. just let the a/c filter breath and moisture to escape.
not perm fix but it helps especially for me when away and car is in carpark for long periods.

Hey Kennethancy, thanks for the tip. will try disabling the auto-vent rotator ... and will report if it improves the situation.
these few days the problem is getting more pronounced due to the hot and raining weather, especially when parked under hot sun. really smells like an army bunk.
if this persists, I am definitely writing to Wearnes to put this on record. they need to rectify this. who else wants to be part of my crusade?
PS: I do not want to use air freshener because this is merely 'masking' over the problem. the fact is that the bacteria problem persists, and must be rectified. I've read on some forums that the smell is due to the growth of bacteria (legionella) in the filter system.... afflicts many Continental cars, not just Jag. very unhealthy leh, and of cos mars the enjoyment of an otherwise awesome drive.
