Wednesday, 14th August 2013 at 09:34am
The long and anxious wait is all but over. On Tuesday, August 20 - less than 10 months until the 2014 Brazil World Cup kicks off - the first phase of tickets will go on sale for fans in Brazil and around the world.
Phase one runs from August 20 until October 10 and fans will be awarded tickets randomly. The second part of phase one runs from November 5 until November 28 and fans will be allocated tickets on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Phase two tickets go on sale on December 8 and runs until January 30, 2014. Tickets will again be allocated randomly during these dates. More phase two tickets will be sold from February 26 until April 1 and these will again be first-come-first-serve.
Phase three - the Last Minute Phase - will be on sale from April 15 until the World Cup final on July 13 and will all be first-come-first-serve.
Competition will be tough and fierce but the chance to go to the World Cup finals in Brazil is not to be missed and any tickets purchased will be worth their weight in gold.
So how do you go about trying to buy tickets?
WELL, HERE'S HOW::
Well, first of all it's important to note that the first batch of tickets go on sale at 12:00 CET (Central European Time). That's 11:00 GMT, 18:00 in the Hong Kong time zone, 20:00 for many in Australia (Queensland, New South Wales and ACT and Victoria), 06:00 in New York, 03:00 in Los Angeles and 07:00 in Rio de Janeiro.
Now you have the time the tickets go on sale you know when and where you have to be in order to stand your best chance of getting them.
There are a number of outlets you can try to purchase your tickets through including official supporters clubs and national football associations. There will no doubt be travel agencies in your home countries where you can combine tickets, flights and hotels - for a price, of course!
Arguably the best way of getting your hands on some tickets is to go through the official Fifa website at www.fifa.com.
Once there, all you need do is follow a six-step process to submit your ticket purchases; after that your fate is in the hands of Sepp Blatter and his cronies!
STEP 1: Creating an account. In order to buy tickets you need to create an account in the 2014 Fifa World Cup ticketing section. This can be done in advance of August 20. The whole process takes no more than five minutes.
STEP 2: Choose which tickets to apply for. Fans have a choice of applying for three types of tickets - venue series tickets, individual match tickets or team specific tickets. Venue Series Tickets (VST) are where you buy tickets for a host city. Purchasing a VST will enable you to see 4-6 matches depending on the city. Individual match tickets are self explanatory, while Team Specific Tickets (TST) enable you to follow your country from the beginning of their campaign until the end. You can choose to purchase 3-7 tickets (group stage only or all the way to the final). If your team is eliminated at any stage, your ticket remains valid for the remaining games you have paid for. For example if England get knocked out in the last 16 (highly likely if they qualify) and you had a TST through to the final you would follow the winning team to the quarter-finals and beyond.
STEP 3: Choose available tickets. Once you have decided upon which type of tickets to buy, you can then choose how many you wish to buy and in which category. There are three categories: A, B and C with A being the most expensive. An individual can purchase up to four tickets per match up to a total of seven matches.
STEP 4: Register the match goers. The fourth step requires the purchaser to input the details of those who will be attending the match - international or Brazilian. The information required is as follows: title, first name, middle name, full surname (including mother's maiden name for Brazilians), date of birth, nationality, ID number (passport or ID number for international fans, Cadastro de pessoas fisicas (CPF) and/or Registro Geral (RG) for Brazilian residents, and country of residence. In addition, the purchaser will need to supply their home address including zip code (Cdigo de Endereamento Postal (CEP) for Brazilian Residents, email address, and mobile phone number.
STEP 5: Payment. Fans can purchase their tickets a number of ways. You can pay by Visa (official sponsor) or another bank card or a bank wire transfer. A wire transfer can only be used by international fans and only if they're using the hard copy ticket application form which can be found in the ticketing section of the official Fifa website. Brazilians can also purchase tickets via boleto.
STEP 6: Submit your application. The last and easiest step. Click to submit and then sit back and wait.
So there you have it; your six-step guide to buying tickets for the 2014 Fifa World Cup. All there is left for us to do is wish you good luck and hopefully see you in Rio!
I have booked online thru Fifa.com "Venue-based Tickets" x 4 (Each person can only apply for 4 max)
I have chosen Sao Paulo (Stadium is called Arena de Sao Paulo). Reason is SIA flies to Sao Paulo only. Convenience for travel.
Sao Paulo will host total of 6 matches but for "Venue-based Tickets", I will only get access to 4 games.
Price is USD 1520 Total. (4 games for 4 pax per game = 16 tickets) Category 3.
The schedule for the 4 games are:
1) 19 June 2014
2) 23 June 2014
3) 26 June 2014
4) 01 July 2014
The matches are 13 days apart, hence I am likely to stay in South America (not just Brazil...) for 2 weeks plus. Another option will be to sell off tickets for 19 June or 1 July and shorten the trip.
SQ68 (1 stop) 26 hours - SGD 2717 per pax. Cheapest but inflexible dates, meaning will have to miss last match (fly home 30 June).
If fly back 3 July, then it will cost SGD 3165 per pax.
Alternative is to fly by AirItalia which is flexible dates and have many flights (2 stops) 41 hours - SGD 2802 per pax.
Accomodation - pending further research on tripadvisor.com.sg but I've already seen the range from SGD 100 to SGD 300 thereabouts. Assuming twin-sharing basis, divide accomodation cost by 2 for the per pax cost.
Estimated cost so far will be SGD 6000 per pax (Match tickets + Flight + Hotel)
