UOB-Shell discount
Permalink

Guys!

the long relationship between them will be coming to an end this month and from then on there will be no additional rebate for using UOB card....

1) do you know why?

2) what are you going to do?

Am a typical Human .... Resistance to changes

:(

Just went to pump petrol today.

Apparently, HSBC and Citibank is taking over UOB as the preferred card with SHELL. For best discount structure, seems like HSBC Premier is the one to go for.

Oh no.... I always pump Shell with UOB card. And I do not have Citi nor Hsbc CC. Never believe holding too many cards. So how many percent of discount we expect to "lose"?

I have also been using SHELL since day 1 when I owned a car. Recently received this 80 bucks voucher (NS45) and used it to pump CALTEX diesel techron. Find it the same or even better than SHELL diesel. OCBC CC has 14% discount. Maybe I will switch to CALTEX in the future. The problem is that there are not many stations around the place where I stay.

 Bro XFS,

think we going to lost out 3-5% depending on the different UOB card you have.

 Bro Silencer162,

please remember to deduct the 10% given by shell escape card, their presentation of 15-19% (I think) includes the discount mentioned earlier.

Caltex diesel is good? Then maybe I should try next round.

Diesel techron is a premium diesel meaning they have more than one grade of diesel? Or it is just a fancy name?

I'm Caltex fan too! HSBC/OCBC cards 15% discount.
Sometimes I do SPC out of convenience, and recently they offer 21% discount-cum-rebate which is really attractive... Have to use POSB Everyday Card or Amex.

Malaysia I do mainly Petronas 95/97 and sometimes V-Power 97 from Shell. Have tried BHP 97 (don't bother...). All use Maybank got 5% rebate for Malaysia Petrol.

So two CCs will do the major work. HSBC + Maybank. POSB Everyday Card is also ATM card, Ezlink and CC, so its a "Utility" card...

Used to pump Caltex, then switch to SPC as got discount for AMEX and nearer mine place.

When Shell station setup much nearer and have UOB card discount, changed to them.

Now with this "divorce", without HSBC/Citibank card, looks like going back to my "ex" liao .... SPC .....

Actually like UOB card cos accumulated so much smart$, etc ..... a little sad ...

It seems even with the tie up between HSBC & Shell, it'll not be better than the Caltex deal...

Look out for the launch of a new UOB Card petrol programme this Sun, 30 Jun. Plus, check out The Sunday Times or Lianhe Zaobao for a special offer tomorrow. From 1 Jul, Shell will cease to be a UOB SMART$ merchant. To unsub, SMS UN to 77862.

Pumped Shell 95 using HSBC today. On the slip its stated 10% discount only. Apparently another 6% rebate will be directly into HSBC card on next billing.
I actually prefer Caltex / HSBC which is a straight forward 14% off. On top of that, Smiles $ is about 40:$1. This loosely translated into 2.5%, making the total 16.5% + or -.

 Noted with thanks....

I also get to know but kind verify..... to translate the rebate to shell dollars (weekly basis), there will be a S$1.50 surcharge. no

ESSO - DBS

Read from UOB website that they are now in bed with Caltex, discount is 14% + 2% smart rebate.

I tried to use my UOB CC for Caltex diesel today. Station said only 5% discount for diesel whereas it is 14% + 5% smart $ for petrol. Is this true? Is this only to Caltex diesel only?
Using cash or nets will have 10% discount.

No idea... My nearest to my place only shell, SPC n esso...... Will try SPC.

FYI I went shell today using HSBC .... Guess what? Need to spend 600dollars a month to get rebate! Feel cheated!

citi will work like Uob for shell.....

I normally pay like 600-700 a month for petrol.

For chirp chirp petrol, perhaps we can convoy to JB, pump petrol and eat wanton mee at Ah Peow... automatically cut your monthly petrol expenditure by 50%.

When the jag is down to last drop of fuel, I bo chap which station or discount...
But personally, I go to SPC with my Amex card, mainly becos it's convenient for where I stay; better FC as compared to Esso; shell; caltex. I can push to close to 600km for a full tank with SPC 98 levo.. Mainly bcos traveling on highway..

I always believe the Octane levels don't make that much difference, but I'm no guru in chemistry, so I just pump the most convenient choice or available.

Most of the time I do Caltex 95 (I've done 92 and I got similar mileage) and Petronas 97 (Or 95 when the attendant bochap)...

If I feel lucky or I struck 4D, I do abit of V-Power but seriously I can't feel the power difference or mileage gain (quite minimal) to make it a long term choice...

We've got heavy cars (god knows why!!!?) and if I want more mileage / Fuel efficiency, I'll sure buy the diesel 2.2 / 3.0 XFs next car!

Now I just pretend I never see the F/E reading on the screen... Hehe..
